DWELLING DESTROYED.
CONFLAGRATION ON MILL ROAD.
HOUSE RAZED TO THE GROUND.
Shortly after five o’clock on Fri lay evening the six-roomed residence of Mr James Farrelly, Mill Road, Paeroa. was completely destroyed by lire.
Tlie fire, appeared to ihaye originated in tlie wall of the’ scullery, and the (lames travelled quickly to, tine ceiling and along the roof, which was of shingles and iron. The origin of the outbreak cannot be accounted for. as the. scullery was situated some dis-* ta.nce from the kitchen, where the nearest fire was. The house, which has been occupied by Mr and Mrs Farrelly during .the last fourteen years, was an old one, having, been erected, about 40 years ago.
The conflagration attracted the' attention of Mr H. J. Day. who lives nearby, and he assisted Mr Farrelly to salvage a few article's of furniture and personal effects, but the fire spread withs uch rapidity .that it was impossible to save very much. The house, which was insured in the South British Office for £4OO, was razed ta the ground, there being no water supply other than from tanks on the property. which made i/ impossible ,to attempt, to fight the flames.
