PAEROA BOROUGH.

MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING. ROUTINE BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was held on Thursday last, His Worship the Mayor. (Mr W?Marshall) presiding over, Crs. E. Edwards,, p. E. Brenan, F. E. Flatt, J. H. J Hare-, E. A. PorPinder, W. Turner,, and W- C. Alexander (town clerk). WIDENING OF STREET. A letter was received from the borough solicitor, enclosing a plan of portion of Lot 21, of Te Arero-o-Hua-Block, and drawing .attention \ to the fact .tha,t Bradley Street was not 66ft on one portion of the frontr ■age to the' section. It was sought to overcome the difficulty by dedicating a portion of the section to the street. The Mayor said that there was an-

cient history attached 'to the case, ' but the matter was now in order. In th e ease of every sub-divisjon under the “Municipal .Corporations Act,” it was necessary ,to have a sjtreet 66ft wide. On the motion of Cr. Porritt it w.ajs agreed to, accept dedication, and also to approve of the sub-divisiojn. HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES. The town clerk, Hamilton Borough Council wrote advising that the Court had dealt with the allocation of heavy license fees for the year ended March 31, 1929, o ( n February "6. 19,28. The new order provided, a s did the. previous one, f'Qr boroughs reta.ining 55 per cent., and the counties 75 per cent, of the net sums collected. but now independent town boards were placed in the same position boroughs, instead of being permitted to retain all fees, and the allocation of pool monies had been considerably altered. Those monies woiild now be paid over, in proportion to the amount spent out of the current revenues of the various local bodies, on street reconstruction or .maintenance, ajid the interest and sinking fund on' loaps ’ raised for street, reconstruction, but excluding from the total Government j grants, 'highway board subsidSeSj and I special loans. / The Mayor said it was unfortunate that -the. change had been brought about this year, in view of the fact that the past season had been a record one for the council in expenditure e,n reconstruction works. However, probably the new system was a ■more equitable, one, and the council would benefit in future years NEW HEALTH DISTRICT. The Dis + ”ict Medical officer of Health, Auckland, wrote . advising that it had been decided! to reconstitute the health district at present known as Cofomandel-Opotiki health district, and re-name the ,sa.me to Thames-Tauranga health district, which wQUId include the counties of Great . Barr|er Island, Coroma.ndel, Thames, Hauraki Plains, Ohinemuri, ' and Tauranga. REGULATIONS. The Medical Officer of Health wrote stating that the council’s letter agreeing that the drainage and plumbing regulations be made applicable to the Paeroa borough ha,d been received. Notification had been forwarded to the Director-General of Health for. •inclusion in the statutory. N.Z. Ga- " zette notice. , A similar letter was also received pertaining to the registration of hairdressers’ shops in the borough. It was agreed to receive the letters .a,nd refer, them to the town clerk. TIMARU JUBILEE. *■ The Timar.u Borough Council ■ forwarded several complimentary copies Of the jubilee issue of th ; e Thnaru Herald and. Post. Cr. Flatt said it ’was a very nice act to have taken an interest in a smatll borough-dike Paeroa. It was agreed to thank the council and place'the papers in the (.Ohinemuri Public Library.for the use of subscribers. MOTORISTS’ CAMP SITES. In forwarding .a list of camps for touring motorists the: N.Z. Tourist League advised that it had taken up with the Minister of Land’s the desirability of introducing a clause in the Washingmp Bill- authorising local bodies and domain boards to| set aside a portion of any public domain oi park as a camping site for motorists and others, and to. make a charge for its use. To Cr. Flatt the .Mayor said that there was no, place set aside in the borough for a camping site. It wquld be nice if a suitable site could be .selected. There was a camping site near Tarariki Creek, which was in .the Ohinemuri County. Cr. Edwayds suggested that a site ■might, be obtained at the Rawhitiroa reserve. It was decided to refen the matter to the chairman of the domain committee and the local agent for the Auckland Automobile Association. FISH-CURING SHED. The medical officer of health, writing in connection with the application to erect a fish-curing shed ir Belmont Road, advised that .the mat ter had been referred to the district health inspector for a report. The Mayor remarked that in the - event of the report being favourable i.t wQutld not be’fair to delay the application fois a month, and the matter was referred to the health committee and the chairman of the build r ing committee, with power to act.
