NGATEA STREET LIGHTS.
POSITION TO BE INVESTIGATED. INQUIRY BY HALL SOCIETY. The Ngatea township street lighting may -be: reinstated in the near future. At .the monthly meeting of the Public Ha.ll Society’s executive committee on Tuesday evening it was decided, oil tlie motion of Mr W. G. Hayward, that a committee comprising Messrs G. T. Davidson J. Darlington, and S. Tarver wait on the chairman and seotetary of the Ngatea Street Lighting Committee for the purpose of obtaining full particulars of the position and standing witli the Power Board, witii the object of taking over the responsibility. ’ The committee- is to report to a special -meeting as soon as possible.
It was contended that the society had power to undertake the responsibility by virtue of a clause in its articles of association which provided that the business of t.he society was “generally to watch over the interests of settlers.” , The -matter came up at the meeting as ;i. result of a report which appeared in the “Gazette” concerning an accident to a small hoy who had walked into the roadside drain on the hall frontage.
