LAST SATURDAY’S GAMES. SUBURBS V. PIRATES. The Suburbs v. Pirates match, on the No. 1. ground at the local domain, on Saturday last, proved rather a fiasco, especially during the first half of the game. Pirates was able to field only .12 men, several of whom were junioni players, and the weight, and combination of thfe. Suburbs fifteen proved too strong. On resuming after half-time- the vacancies in the Pirates team were filled with junion players and the game was tiien mor£ even and interesting. In the second quarter it was not -long before Pirates were diefending, ‘and after a couple of scrums Meredith gave E'. Bennett the ball to register a- try in the corner. McCarroll failed to convert. Suburbs 26, Pirates 3. Shortly afterwards Suburbs initiated a, loose rush, which terminated in W. Bennett crossing the line to score his seventh and the last try. East match the newly formed Maori team fifteen tried 'themselves out again, st a Paeroa junior B team. The Maoris were the heavier, but they lacked the- knowledge and pace of their opponents, the game resulting in a victory for Paeroa. by 18 points to 3. - For the winners tries were scored by Vercoe (2), Kaio (2), Currie, and Denize. S. Ngatai scored a try for the Macir-is. Mr T. C. Arnold was referee. PRIMARY SCHOOLS. Dulring Saturday morning the primary schools’ competition was advanced a further, stage when United defeated Paero.a B by 18 points to 0, and Hikii■taia defeated Paje-roa A by 11 points to 3. Mr W. Southby controlled, the first game and Mr J. Verran the second.

HAUBAKI PLAINS GAMES. THE DENT CUP FINAL. The last senior grad£ iiiten-club match of the s;e.a,son was played on the Hauraki Plains on Saturday last, when Tuma beat Waitakaruru in the final match of th© knock-out competition for, the Dent Cup, winning; the trophy for the. second time. The match was an evenly fought, clean, hard,.a,nd interesting struggle, but disappointing in the standard of play for the final match of the season between the leading teams. The teams took tire field as follows :—

Waitakaruru kicked off and fast forward play ensued at half-way. i Waitakaruru gaining ground, and Tu- ; rua relieving with line kicks at every opportunity. Play remained between the two twent-five; fla,gs, a shot at goal by Blacklaws being returned. Turua, forwards secured from a lineout near the twfeaity-iive flag and Blacklaws sent to Waitakaruru’s goal where Molesworth relieved from close play. A free; kick to Turua was returned to the line andl tight play ensued in Waitakaruru’s twenty-five. Ma.dgwick secured on several occasuions but was too closely watched to get away. K&lk and Dobbs were playing sterling forward gapies. From a scrum tne Tur,ua backs pasjscxl out to the open where dtf. Hill, in attempting. to intercept, ‘knocked on. and was penalised. After, the scrum a Waitakaruru free kick took play.

Play was on Turua’s side of half-jvay, Waitakaruru gradually gaining ground. From a scrum play became open, and a Turua free kick sent play to halfway, and back to Tuflua’F twentyflv'e agajn. A long kick was followed up by Molesworth who compellel a, throw-in from which Turua secured and sent play to halfway. Tight play followed in neutral territory until a Waitakaruiui free kick by C. Clark was linked by Catlin. W. Clark ,a.nd Marsha.il took play from the line out to Waitakaruru’s, twenty-five, where Stretton saved by lining. In open, s-ejr.aggy play Fox secured a.nd scored the first and only try. Catlin failed to convert. Turua 3, Waitakaruru 0. On resuming after half-tim-e, Turua kicked off and followed uo, tyid Fisher almost scored. Two free kicks failled to give Waitakaruru relief, and tight play ensued on the line. un;til Scott kicked backwards, and Paton and Moles worth took play to h,a,lf-way. Elvi-n. secured from a. scrum and Stretton was forced outClose forward play followed in midfield Waitakaruru gaining ground, Paton being prominent. Molesworth ■carried play to Turua’s twenty-five, and long kicks followed until Blacklaws mis-kicked to the side llnp, Wai-takarur-u pressed and were awarded a free kick for offside play but Moles;wortfi. failed from a good position, and tight play ensued until Elvin relieved. Molesworth secured and lined near the- corner. Fox relieved! from the tight and Kelk carried on with good drabbling to half-way. C. Clark was caught off-side a.nd this gave Blacklaws a shot .at goal, but the, kick was blocked. Play returiHed to half way, apd was very fas’t anfd hard, but was interrupted by marks and kicks to ‘the line. Catlin opended up from .a scr.um, and gained ground. Shortly after change over was called. lOn resuming, play was at half-way untill Catlin opened up, and a succession of long kicks gaye Moles, worth ! an; opportunity to get in a, good run. Clark opened up from a line-out, and Blacklaws was compelled to force. ■A forward tussle followed until Clark got in a good kick, which Blacklaws marked. A mis-kick made Turua; force. From the drop-out Turua flushed half-way until play became op®n and Waitakaruru gained a lot of ground, Brookes being conspicuous. A f-rete kick by Clark was,' forced, by Schofield. Waitakaluru kept on the attack and then, Turua ha.d the advantage. A long kick by Fox took play t 0 .Waitakaruru’s twenty-five for: a while, and on play returning to halfway time was called with the scores being Turua 3, Waitakaruru 0. Mr J. L. V. Reed, of Ngatea, was referee. OTHER MATCHES. As curtain-raiser matches interesting games were played between school teams representing HAuraki Plains an,d Thames, which resulted in a win foir the visitors by 5 points to 3, a.nd between Ngatea and Kerepeehi thirdgrade' teams, which resulted in a win fop Ngatea, by 6 points to nil.
