RAINFALL FOR PAEROA. HEAVY RAIN IN J,ULY. The rainfall for Paeroa for the month of Joly., as registered at the local office: of the Public Works Department, constitutes a record fob that month since July, 1926, 'when 11.35 inches was registered. The fig- . tires recorded Last month were 12.20 •jW'inches. Rain fell on 17 days, the ‘' heaviest fall being, on Tuesday, July--24, when 4.23 inches were r e g,istened. For the period from July 22 to July 28, 7.79 inches of rain fell, during.' which the country was inundated by floods. In July last year only 8.04 inches, or 4.16 inches less than in the corresponding month this year,'were registered. So far. this year the rainfall totals 40.87 inches, which is 10.33, inches in excess of that for the corresponding seven months of 1927. The barometer averaged 30.15, inches, the highest reading, 30.46, being on July 3, and the lowest, 29.81; being on July 9. The thermometer averaged 46deg., i tile highest temperature, 57deg., oc- " earning on July 13, and the coldest day, 40d)eg.. being July 17. The prevailing wind was southwesterly for 10 days and easterly for seven days.

HAURAKI PLAINS FIGURES. HIGH JULY TOTALS. A rainfall higher, than a.ny previous; month of July since- recording was commenced in 1912. and which has~ only been exceeded nine times in that* period, was recorded l by the Lands Drainage Department at its Kerepeehi office last -month. The gauge showed rain on 17 days, anid a total for the month of 7.09-inches, 3 inches above tlie July average. The heaviest falls were for the 24hour periods ended at 8 a,m. on the 24th and 25th, whjen the gaugings were, 1.90 in. and 1.75 in respectively. This produced the local flooding. The total for the yean to date is 24.99 inches, which is .11 of an inch below the average: for the. corresponding period for the last 16 years.
