INCREASED PROTECTION NEEDED. FEARS tOF PLAINS-SETTLERS. The narrowness of the escape of the Hauraki Plains from a flood: disaster last wejek was pointed out by .Mr, H. Hill a t the meeting of Nfc'therton fanners last Friday evening in urging that pressure should be brought to bear, on the Public Works Department, to ensure, that the Waiihou River stopbanks be made higher and stronger. Hie pointed out that the bank had commenced to give way on the Plains side before the, b'g break 'occuDto'd on the other side which relieved the water and thus prevented further, etosion.
Ngatea farmers, present ,a ; t the meeting were impressed, and promised support of any action by the Netherton farmers.
