The; latest, figuffes, for 1926, reveal 1,202,574 marriages and 180,8'53 divorces, Both marriages and divorces touch new high levels in that year, but whereas the divorce a’ate increased the marriage rate declined from the high peak of 1920.

The majority of wives, obtaining divorces get decrees because of the •wuelty of tfreir husbands or because of desertion. Nevada had the highest number of divorces, whilst New York State had the lowest, owing to the; strictness of its laws.
