OBITUARY.

MRS LUCY McCORMACK. There passed away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Frank Marsh, Moore Street, Paeroa, on Wednesday last, an old identity in the person of Mrs Lucy McCormack, after an illness extending over several months. Born in Dublin, a little oven 80 years ago, deceased accompanied her parents t.o New Zealand, arriving; at Port Chalme’rg in the (sailing ship Robert Anderson seventy years ago. On the death of her parents some years afterwards deceasedl took a situation near Clutha, Otago, and while there married the late Mr John 'McCormack, who predeceased her many years ago. Of the varied experiences encountered by Mrs McCormack in. the early she relates how she rode 27 miles on horseback in pouring rain on her wedding day, and ’after the ceremony rofle the full distance home again, She did not again see her husband, who was at that time working in the bush, for nearly six months afterwards. Later, deceased' left Otago and reached! the Coromandel district, where she resided for many years during the gold mining boom at Kaotunu and Opitanui. About thirty years ago she removed to Karaji'gahake, where she was well known and very popular through, out Hie Waihi goldfields. About eight months ago failing health compelled her to take up her residence with her daughter at Paeroa. Latterly she had been very ill, and much. aS, Pihe will be missed', her* demise was a. happy release and conclusion to a long life of usefulness. Three daughters and two sons, are ,left to mourn' their loss, namely, Mrs F. Marsh, 'Paeroa ; Mrs Charles Garrett, Waitoa ; Mrs F. Ramband, Birkenhead ; and Messrs W. McCormack, (Woodville, and C. McCormack, Whangarei.

Deceased was interred at the Pukeriinu Cemetery, Paeroa, on Friday afternoon, the Rev. D. Maddison, (Tuma) performing the last solemn rites. The number of friends, especially old identities, who attended the service bore eloquent testimony to the high 'esteem in which she was held in the district.
