FATALITY AT NEW LYNN.

CRIPPLE THROWN FROM CHAIR. » - 1 ■! STRUCK BY PASSING CARA distressing accident which resulted in tihe death of a man who had been a cripple for 16 yeafs occurred at Auckland on, Saturday evening. Mr William Malam Pirrit, agjed 38, single, residing with his parents at Burrows Avenue, New Lynn, was thrown out of a push-chair as the result of a collision with a motor-car, a,nd sustained injuries which resulted in his death in the Auckland Hospital early yesterday morning. Mr Pirrit was being wheeled Great North Road, towards New Lynn, by his brother, Mr Donald Pirrit, about, 6 o’clock in the evening. The night was very dark, ajid driving rain was falling. A car driven by Mr William Shaw, of Mount Eden Road, returning to the city, was travelling in the same direction. Another car was approaching from the opposite direction. The two cars passed, and 'Mr Shaw felt a slight bump as the side of his cai- struck the wheel of the push-chair. Neither Mr Pirrit nor ihis brother had noticed the car behind them.

Although the impact was only sufficient to buckle the. wheel of the pUshehair, Mr Pirrit was thrown out on to the road. His brother escaped! unscathed. Mr Pirrit. was carried to Latham’s garage and received medical attention. He was taken home, but towards 9 o’clock his condition became worse, and it was found necessary to order his removal to hospital. When lie was admitted, it was,found that th© injuries to the head, in addition to injuries to the right shoulder and chest, were serious, and an operation was performed. This wag of no avail, and Mr Pirrit died early yester-

day morning. Mr pirrit was a member of a family which has resided at New Lynn fqy many years. An attack of rheumatoid arthritis when he was 21 made him a cripple for life.
