, MONTHLY BOARD MEETING. ► "—■~ —-— ■■ . ROUTINE BUSINESS. ’ The monthly meeting of the ‘ Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid ► Board was held on Monday, the chair- , man (Mr W. E. Hale) presiding over Messrs P. E. Brenan., W. J. Hall, C. AVParfitt, C. W. S. Flett, E. L. Walton, ’ A. R. Robinson, C. W. Kennedy, J. AV- " Dauby, and G. Tonge (secretary). STRETCHER FOR HIKUAI. The Medical Officer of Health, Auckland, wrote stating that the ’ -Minister of Public Works had noticed • when passing through Hikuai that the . locality was badf.'y situated so far .as ( the services of a district nurse were concerned, and it was- thought that if a stretcher and' first .aid appliances ” were supplied to the district the s : et- • tiers would be 'in ,a. better position • should accident at any time occur. „ There was -no doubt that Hikuai was isolated owing to bad roads, and. a stretcher, etc., placed in the hands of a trustworthy person would be of great assistance to the settiter,s : . The board w'%s asked to go into the matter with a view to giving some relief. The cha'rman said that the board had a spare stretcher and straps, and a first-aid outfit was being made up at the hospital and would! be forwarded to Hikuai via Auckland by steamer. RECIPROCAL ARRANGEMENT. The Coromandel- Hospital Board wrote acknowledging the Thames Board’s agreement to renew the reciprocal arrangement and suggesting that 5 s a day be paid for all patients treated. The chairman said that 5s a day was 'irrespective of what fees were collected. To Mr Walton the- chairman sajclthat the Waihi Board charged 12s. a day, but something better was expected from Coromandeli. Last yea.r Thames had treated, about 200 patients from the Coromandel district. He moved that the Coromandel Board be advised that Thames w'ould treat Coromandel district patients at 6s a day for a term of 12 months, with the right to collect all fees. NURSE FOR PATETONGA. A letter was received from Sister M. MCLeod, R.N.R.M., thanjking the board for appointing her to the position of district nurse at Patetonga. She advised, that she would take up her duties ,as early as possible. The chairman said that unfortunately he had received a telephone message that morn'ing to jay that Miss McLeod had met with an -accident by fallling from her horses Mr Kennedy reported that Miss McLeod had been admitted to a. private hospital at Morrinsville. It was thought that, the horse had kicked the nurse in the chest, breaking someribs. The roaQl from Patetonga was too bad to permit of bringing the patient to Thames. The secretary said that he had arranged to keep in touch with the pro'gresp made by Miss McLeod, but it was not thought that she was seriously injured. DONATION iOF CASH. A letter received from the Salutation Hotel, Thames, enclosed £1 as a small donation to the hospital- fundsThe money was accepted-, the board expressing appreciation of the gift. BENEVOLENT LEAGUE. The Hauraki Ladies’ Benevolent League forwarded accounts amounting to £9 13s lOd and asked for the usual donation of £lO. —Granted 1 . COMMITTEES APPOINTED. Committees for the month were appointed as follows : Hospital, Messrs Parfitt and Hall-; district homes, Messrs Robinson and Brenan. i
