ENJOYABLE FUNCTION.

HOCKEY AND FOOTBALL DANCE. PLEASURE AT GAIETY THEATRE. In order to raise funds, and 1 with a view to limiting calls on the public for assistance, the Paeroa. Ladies’ Hockey Club and the''Bas.t Football Club combined forces and. held a very successful dance at the Gaiety Theatre on Thursday night. With thb prohibition by-law of euchre tournaments, organisers of public social evenings have had to turn their talents to other ways and means of enticing patrons to their functions. The way the black and white (hockey) and yellow and black (East) colours were worked into a novel)- centrepiece, from which was suspended a football and hockey sticks, was very effective. The liberal use of streamers and nikau palms did much to cover the walls, and the setting was much admired.

On, a perfect floor a large number of couples danced to the strains of irresistible music supplied by the Hauraki Orchestra. The; M’s.C., Messrs AV. P. Pennell and M. Bea.ttie, were infatigable in, their efforts on behalf of these present.

A special prize was awarded to the belle of the evening, and a hard ta.sk was set the judges to reach a decision. Apparently their choice met with warm approval, for, oil announcing that Miss J.
