OHINEMURI LICENSES.

ANNUAL MEETING OF COMMITTEE

POLICE REPORTS SATISFACTORY

The annual meeting of the Ohiiiemuri Licensing Committee was held at the Courthouse, Paeroa, yesterday, the chairman, Mr F. W. Platts, S.M.. presiding over Messrs P. E. Brenair W. Marshall, W. M. Wajlnutt, and R McLean (clerk).

Renewals of licenses were granted in respect of the following: Commercial Hotel, Paeroa ; Royal Mail Hotel, Paeroa ; Paeroa Hotel, Paeroa,; Sterling Hotel, Waihi ; Golden Cross Hotel, Waihi ; Rob Roy Hotel, Waihi; Keropeehi Hotel, Kerepcehi ; and Morrinsville Hotel, Morripsville. ,In .all cases the pol’ce and Health Department’s reports were satisfactory. The fact that a, barman at the Kercpeehi Hotel had been convicted of supplying a youth was pointed out by the Committee, which urged the licensee to exercise a strict supervision over his servants.

Applications for exemption from the lighting clauses in respect of the Waikino Hotel, the Paeroa Hotels and the Golden Cross Hotel, were refused.

Licenses were issued to L. E. Cass.rels, of the Criterion Hotel, Pa,eroa-; Harry Hewitt, of the Waikino Hotel ; and James E. Reid, of the Commercial Hotel Waihi. With reference to the application of J. E. Reid, of the Commercial Hotel, Waihi, Mr B. Clendon stated that the reports were satisfactory, but there wa.s a. charge pending against the applicant for permitting drunkenness on has premises.

Sergeant Calwell explained that he felt it was h’s duty to advise the Committee of the pending charge. Mr Clendon expressed the opinion that a very sound defence could be put up when the case came on. He understood that the police had no objection. The Committee granted the renewal, but issued a warning that a serious view would be taken of future complaints. The Northern Steam Ship Company was granted packet licenses for its steamers Waipu and Tanlwha,
