HAURAKI-ELSTOW BOUNDARY. THE RACECOURSE DRAIN AREA. At a meeting of the Eistow Drainage Board on Saturday lust a letter Was received from the Hhuraki United Drainage Board with reference to Mr M. A. Carter’s visit to tlie boayd in connection with the Racecourse Drain area, which stated that tiie board had no objection to the Elstow Board taking whatever steps it considered necessary to protect itself from any water which.it considered might come from the Haura.ki Board’s district. Mr Carter said that the water from the Hauraki .area came into the Elstow Board’s drains in times, of flood. He esitmated that there was from 590 to 1000 a.cres: of watershed of the Hauraki area which drained down into the canal, of the Elstow area. There was 1000 acres of. Elstow land there 18 inches below the level off the water at flood time. Hfe added that the board could claim compensation over all the area which drained into the Elstow Board’s catchment drains. It was decided to write to the Ha.uraki Board asking it if it would agree to assist in keeping the Ha.uraki Board’s water off the low land cr accept a portion of the cost 'of pumping that water off along with tlie Elstow Board’s ordinary water.
