MOTOR CAR SKIDS.

COLLISION WITH A POST. OCCUPANTS ESCAPE UNHURT. A collision with a post in Arney Street shortly after 7 o’clock on Monday night resulted in extensive damage to a motor-car owned and driven by Mr H. A. Hamilton, picture proprietor, Paeroa,. Mr Hamilton, with a male companion, had just turned from Normanby Road, intc Arney Street, and after passing the Centenary Hall, a large motor-car, showing brilliant headlight, approached from the direction of Thames. The bright lights of the on-coming car dazzled Mr Hamilton, and in allowing plenty off, room to pass he pulled too far, off the bitumen, with the result that the wheels skidded; in the soft mud and clay on the roadside. Before he was able to get t'he car straightened up the lefthand side of the vehicle came into violent contact with a telegraph pole. The impact brought the car to a standstill, and the occupants were able to get out with nothing worse than a shock and a good shaking.

The car, which was later towed to a local garagej was considerably damaged on the left-hand side. In addition to bent front and rear axles., the greater portion of, the body was broken, and the hood, mudguards, and runningboqrd were crumplefi or otherwise damaged.
