PLAINS RUGBY UNION.
MEETING AT NGATEA.
The Hauraki Plains Rugby Union met at Ngatea yesterday evening, Mr H. Dent presiding oyer Messrs C. S. Foster, C. Bertelsen, N. Clay, G. Courtney, C. A. Hayward, W. Madgwick, W. Taylor, G. T. Davidson, a.nd W. P. Wylde (secretary). CONDUCT OF PLAYERS. The main business was to deal with matters in connection with the conduct of players and spectators at the Turua-Ngate.a match on Saturday la,st. The Turua Club advised that at its weekly meeting on Monday a resolution was passed prohibiting W. R. F. Elvin and G. Johnson, both of Turua, from attending any football match on the Turua domain until of the 1928 season. The union was a&kedl to make this apply to other playing fields under its jurisdiction.
Mr Madgwick said that as' an outcome of a very unruly match, so far as the spectators were concerned, his club had felt that it must take action to protect its good name, for if such actions were permitted to pass uniheeded the support of the public would be lost. These two men had been reported to the club, and an investigation had proved the case against them. The club had therefore taken the course of prohibiting them from attending matches, and it looked to the union to support its action. It was decided to endorse the action of the Turua club and to prohibit the two men from attending any matches under the control of t'he union until the end of the present season. The improper behaviour of two Kerepeehi players, F. Mulgrew and A. Burt, at the Turua-Ngatea match was also brought to the attention of the union by resolution of the Turua. club. An investigation was held, and from evidence given, by Messrs W. Madgwick, T. White, and J. Hamilton, and from the explanations of Mulgrew ajid Burt, the union decided that the men had misbehaved. Both were suspended from playing for two playing Saturdays—June 2 and 9. A resolution was. passed requesting all members of the union to report all cases of misconduct or any matter likely to bring discredit on footba.ll on bhe part of spectators at football matches. PROTEST WITHDRAWN. - The Turua Club telegraphed a protest against the action of the Ngatea club in playing A. Beasley in its senior team on Saturday last. It was contended that he was not a bona fide resident of the Ngatea district. On tne following day the Turua. club wrote withdrawing the protest. Mr Madgwick explained that when the protest was entered it was understood that Beasley was working for a man who did not reside in the, Ngatea club’s area. When it was learned that Beasley lived' on another farm the protest wa.s withdrawn. A AND B MATCH. The president reported that the selector of the senior repreesentatives ha.d expressed a wish for an A v. B matesh on June 9. Members expressed the opinion that such matches when held in the past had proved of little or no benefit, and a motion to hold such a match was defeated by five votes to three. WASTING TIME. The question of the practice of kicking the ball a long distance outof play with the idea, of wasting time during a match was mentioned by the president, who expressed the opinion that an extra, ball should be kept in readiness throughout the game. He had noticed that one team kept an addibioiia.l ball and had sent it on to the field When it suited its team. He contended that if a second ball was available it should be available throughout the match. A resolution on those lines was carried. TIME OFF. The extraordinary length rtf the last spell in the Turua-Ngatea match on Saturday last was.- commented on. and it was found that through a misunderstanding the whole of the times taken off for stoppages on account of injuries had been added to the final quarter, instead of to the quarters in which the stoppages occurred.
The matter was referred to the Referees’ Association.
