BUTTER EXHIBITION.

WAIKATO WINTER SHOW DISPLAY. SUCCESS OF PAEROA FACTORY. The butter and cheese exhibits at the Waikato Winter Show at Ha.mil" ton are attracting considerable interest, especially by reason of the fact that this,, is. the first year in which the British prohibition against the use of preservatives, in butter prepared for export came into operation. The supervising dairy prcjduce grader. Department of Agriculture, Mr J. (O’Dea, who acted as prlnc’pal judge at tlie s’h'ow on Monday, stated that the quality of the exhibits was of a high standard and proved that butter made from the raw material was a sound-keeping article.- In that connection cream-grading played an important part.

It is particularly pleasing to report that t'he N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Company’s Paeroa. factory (Mr L. Morris manager) won the championship of Neiv Zealand, out of 47 entries, for a box of butter suitable for export, and open to all butter factories. The. local factory also tied for second place with the Te Aw; a m u tu factory out of 35 entries in the provincial championships for a box (561 b of butter suitable for export. The Waikato Valley Dairy Co-, Ltd., w,.as third in this class.

In the special cla.ss list for factories with an output of less than 100 1 tons, box (561 b factory-ina.de, from homeseparated cream, the Hauraki Plains Dairy Co. ; Ltd. (Mr K. McKenzie manager), Turua, was first with 95 points. In the class for box (not less than 481 b), open to first assistant buttermakers, the N.Z. Co-poerative Dairy Co.’s Ngatea factory was judged to be the winner with 9'5% points. There were 36 entries. For the first assistants’ points prize the Ngatea and Waiuku factories tied for second place. In the classes for the provincial points prizes the Ngatea, and Wafiaroa factories and Waikato Valley Dairy Co.. Ltd., were equal with 467 points.
