The expenditure amounted to £2604 3s Id, includ'ing £650 transfeirred to the house sewerage connections: loan account and £785 3s' 4d, being half-year’s principal and interest, to the State Advances Office. The credit balance in the district fund account, totalled £673 -7s 3d. Credit balances in the loan accounts were shown as follows : Swimming baths, £lOB 12s ; £4500 improvement to main streets, £6 14s id ; 1920 street imrovement Wan, £ll9 18s 6d ; Criterion, bridge, £B2 4s Id ; council chambers, £39 18s 3d. The house sewerage connections account (£650 ,5s 10d) and the sewerage loan account (£l6 0s sd) each carry debit balances-
The question of establishing a casein factory at Ngateh, to be ri#b in conjunction with the butter factory, is receiving consideration by the settlers, within easy ca.r.ting distance. The suggestion is to have the whole milk carted by cointractors, in a similar way to the present ci.eam cartage system.
Approximately one-lith of the annual .maintenance cost of Auckland hospital, including overhead charges, is absbrbed in bills for food. There is a daily average of about 600 patients in the hospital, and the food required daily comprises 2101bs. of meat, 1401bs. fish, 401,b5. poultry, OOlbs. butter, 100 gallons Of milk and cream, 30 dozen eggs, 200 loaves of bread, 301bs. flour. These figures I’.re 'iiti-ge when, it is remembered that the majority of the patients are sick and they eat very little food. The cost of all thei foodstuffs varies from £lB,OOO to £20.000 a year, while £lOOO is spent yearly on wines and spirits.
