REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. SATISFACTORY POSITION SHOWN. At a meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council on Thursday night the Library Committee presented the following report and balancei-shcet for the Ohiriemuri Public Library for the ended March 31, 1.928 :— ’ “During the year we nave had some very-much-needed repairs carried cut in the librarian’s room. Some lead lighting and a painted ceiling have added to the lighting of the room, extra shelving for, the book-cases has given, more accommodation to a,n in l " creasing store of b'ooiks, and a linoleum floor covering has improved, the general appearance. “Our subscribers continue to average about 100. At present there are 107. This average ought to increase, in the near future. New books are being constantly added in the lending department. “The. thanks of the committee are due to Mr Towers for painting the ceiling free cif charge ; toj the Ohine’ County Council for its donation l twards the .repairs ;to various subscribers and others who have donated magazines and newspapers to the reading room, and to -Mr who kindly audits our yearly balancesheet. “The balance-sheet is as follows: — “Receipts.—Balance at March 31, 1927, £1 ,10s lid ; boirough grant, £32 2s 3d; county grant, £5 «ss; donation from county to repairs, £2 10s ; members’ subscriptions, £5B 6s sd; sale, of old paper, £1 10s 8d; £1 3s 3d; finqs, 195,6 d. Total, £lO3 Bs. Expenditure.—Librarian, £3O; lighting, £3 ss; cuting blackberries, £1 10s ; cleaning, £7; repairs, £9 6s 4d ; Libraries’ Asosci'ation, 10s. 6d; new books, £23 17s 6d; insurance, £3 6s sd; papers; a,nd magazines, -£l4' 13s u/ 8d ; leaving cash iji hand, £9 18s 7d.” I In moving the adoption of the report 'the Mayor said that the library was functioning well for a small town, and the, committee was doing good work, considering the limited funds available. He paid a tribute to the work of Mrs A- Thorp, hop. secretary, and moved that the council record its thapks and deep appreciation for the interest taken and splendid work dOjite by Mrs Thorp. The resolution was carried unanimously.
