PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union held its weekly meeting on Monday night, the chairman (Mr W. P. Pennell) presiding over the following : Father J. T. Taylor. and Messrs M. Crosby, J. Pinder, E- Shaw, and. K. L. Slyfield (actingMATCHES WITH THAMES. The Thames Union wrote submitting Juno 16 and June 30 as dates for matches at Paeroa and Thames respectively. It was pointed out that the return match' at Thames would W be. a home match, and not one for the \ Birch Cup, as the union was o*£ the opinion that where a trophy was at stake a return match should not be for a trophy. Challenges for. the Birch Cup closed on August 31, while challenges for the Johnston- Cup on May 31. A discussion was opened by Mr Pinder, who asked.what the position was in regard to the Thames Union’s statement that the Thames Valley Union was unfinancial. The chairman explained l that fol- , lowing the statement the Waihi and Hauraki Plains unions had cancelled all engagements with Thatnes> Mr Crosby considered that it would be a pity to lose the opportunity of playijig a match with Thames. Mr * Pinder, said that the 'Paeroa union was under the jurisdiction of W the Thames Valley Union, and it would / savour of letting the union down if it did not, also cancel the applications for games with Thames. In the opinion of Mr Shaw the parent body should be suppoijted if the statement alleged’ to have been made by the Thames: Union was proved to be'true. However, it was desirable to foster a good .feel'ng between the Paeroa and Thames unions, and a ■ match between the two teams at Pae- , roa would prove a strong attraction. It was ijesolved to defer the acceptance of the dates until after the Thames Valley. Union meeting on Saturday night next. , THAMES VALLEY UNION. The Thames Valley Union wrote advising that a meejting would be held next Saturday evening for the purpose of receiving the report of the delegate to the annual meeting of the N.Z. Rugby Union, to discuss representative fixtures-, and to make the draw for the Poland Cup and Sharebrokers’ Cup competitions. Mr Pinder contended that the delegates should be instructed to oppose the one and only representative fixture this season—Thames Valley v. Bush district —being played at Te Aroha. The chairman agreed, and ini pointing out that Paeroa was. the natural centre of the T-hames; Valley Union’s territory, drew attention to the regular and efficient bus and train services | fi-om Te Aroha, Waihi, Thames, and Hauraki Plains which were available Paeroa. He also contended that TOc cost off assembling a representative team at, Te Aroha would be very much more expensive than at Paeroa. After some discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Pinder seconded by Father Taylor, that the delegates oppose the fixture being played at Te Aroha. , 9 REGISTRATIONS. The registrations of P. Karu as a West senior and J. Rowe as an, East junior were approved. The secretary drew attention to the fact that Rowe had been registered on the field by a. referee on Saturday ■ last; It was decided to advise the Referees’ Association and all clubs « that, in accordance with the rules, *’ . the registration of all players must be done through the union now that the second. round had commenced.
