TURUA TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION. The Turua Town, Board met last Wednesday evening, Mr J. Mules presiding over, Messrs. S- G. Williams, J. T. Davies, C. Scott, J. H. Johnston, J. Schmidt, and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. FINANCIAL POSITION. A bettor financial position at the end of the financial year than has been the case for a long time was disclosed in the financial statement for tiie yea< ended on March 31. It showed receipts totalling £498 Is. 9d and expenditure totalling £566 19s 7d, which left a debit balance of £6B 17s lOd. A subsidy at the rate of, 30s for every £ spent on improving the watertables of Hauraki Rond will be received when the work is completed. So fai: £69 has been spent on this work. The rates unpaid at March 31 amounted to £l6l 18s. Id. The expend'tttrc on works, labour, and ma.terials accounted for £412 18s Bd, while the street lighting, for which a special rate is levied', cos.t £4l ss. SEALING FOOTPATHS. The works committee reported having ordered a ton of special quality bitumen which could be, used without heatiing, and it was proposed to use this bitumen to seal a length of footpath. A puntload of shingle, 40 cubil yards, had been ordered for use on footpaths. DRAINAGE. It was decided to call tqnd'ers. for a 3 by 2 by 1 drain on the northern side of Hauraki Road from Piako Road outlet to Torr’s outlet, and the works, committee was given power to deal with tliq matter.
