A V letter was received from the Piako Rugby Union asking for its share of the gate takings resulting from the two Sprague Shield matches A' Played at Paeroa last season. ’ On the motion of Mr Pinder it was resolved to pay the sum of £2 Is 2d. STARTING TIME OF MATCHES. Reference was made to the senior teams being again late in taking the field last Saturday. The secretary said that so far as: he was able to ascertain East could not field a full team at 3 p.m-, and West was to blajme. The Suburbs team was ready to take the, field at 3 o’clock. The chairman said 1 that the position could not go on. Mr Pinder moved that the four senior teams be fined 10s each. He said that if the Suburbs team’ was ready it should have taken the field .at 3 p.m. A team being short was. no ’excuse. It was. useless passing res.o J lutions. artless they were given effect
1 to. 1 Father Taylor; reminded the mee.ting of a resolution passed three weeiks ago in which it was unanimously agreed to fine the defaulting team 10s. As an amendment the secretary moved that East, West, and Pirates only be fined. Mr Pinder withdrew his resolution, ' and the amendment, which was sec-> ended by Mr Shaw, became the motion. , , As an amendment Father Taylor moved that in view of it being early in the season last Saturday’s penalty > be overto'oked, but on and after Sat- 1 urday next‘the referees be advised k/ that the teams must take the field on I time. It was resolved to procure a lock for the dressing shed, one key to be handed to the gatekeeper; and one to be retained by the secretary. QUESTION OF BOUNDARY.
The chairman intimated that a pro-i test would be received; from the Turua club on account of two flayers, residents of Netherton, which was in the Paeroa union’s, area, Who had played! for Korepeehi on Saturday last. . it was a difficult matter to define the boundary between the Hauraki Plains and Paeroa. , 'Mr Tarns contended that the play, ers concerned—H. Wright and •E ; <oPisher—were actually i« the Hauraki Plains area. After a lengthy discussion the matterwas referred to Messrs J- W a! l ms ’ < Icjrand L. E. Shaw to look into the ( question of boundaries and report to the next meeting. MATCH WITH THAMES. . The chairman referred to a statement which had'been made at & meeting of the Thames Rugby Union and which had appeared in the Press, with reference! to the Thames Valley Union finishing up its season With a debit balance. The statement was untrue, unwarranted, and detrimental 2 to thq Thames Valley Union. He uim w derstood that the Hauraki Plains apd ’’ Waihi sub-unions had cancelled aIH matches, with Thames in the mean-* time as a protest. He thought the Paeroa union should also cancel its request for a match and support the Thames. Valley union. The secretary read a letter; frpm Thames advicing that the application for a match had been referred to. the match committee. Mr Pinder thought that as Paeroa had applied for, a match with Thames it would have to hontour its request. The statement might have been made by a person outside the Thames, union. In his. opinion there wais very little chance of Thames ever joining up with th-- Thames Valley union. Because Waihi and Hauraki Plains had cancelled their, matches was. no reason Why Paeroa should. A date for a } match had been applied for, and when the date was notified the match should be played. The chairman said it was neces- ■ s'airy that the. meeting should know what had taken place. Mr Crosby thought that a game with Thames would be a dr,aw, and he failed to see why the matches should not be played. The secretary said that the Thames. Valley Union had been fair to all subiunibns, and when the parent body was attacked the sub-unions should iStand by it and combat the statement. The chairman agreed, and! said he ■was sorry to see such a state of affairs. During the last few seasons the ill-feeling between Thame,s and Y"Paeroa had been largely broken) down, and the new development was greatly to be regretted. Mr Pindei; said' he was inclined to - think that there was something other than the statement which had caused the two unions to cancel matches -with Thames. To bring the matter a head he was going to move that further consideration of, the matter be deferred in the meantime. This, was agreed to. REGISTRATIONS. The following additional rcg'stra'fions were accepted!: East seniors, 2; t Pirates, 1; East juniors, 4 ; Suburbs, ■4 ; West third-grp.de, 1. f GENERAL. The secretary was granted two weeks’ leave of 'absence, and Mr K. LiSlyfield’s offer to attend to matters ■during the interim was. accepted with thanks.
