MOTHER’S DEAL WITH GYPSIES.
A ragged boy of 11%. Alfred Vaughan, told the Greenwich guardians that his mother took him away from the guardians’ home .at S'dcup, Kent, nine months ago, and sold him at Bromlciy to gyps'es for ss. At C’hertsey, he said, the gypsies turned him adrift and 'he wandered about all day. reaching Malden. He told his trouble to a policeman, who took him to his grandmother, living in the Greenwich district, and she took him to the guardians. He 'had new been to school during the nine months, and there were four ■other children in the caravan. He called the man and woman “father and mother.” He was told to “take ■li’s hook” or they would give him a good whipping, as they had done before. The grandmother told, the board that she had no idea of the whereabouts of her. daughtter. She thought it likely that the mother sold the boy. The boy is to be sent back to Si flcup.
