BOWLER SHIELD COMPETITION.

PAEROA RETAINS THE TROPHY. Last Saturday afternoon the Paeroa cricket eleven (holders.) was called upon to play a cha-llllenge match by the Gordon team for, the Bowler Shield. Owing to the Paeroa Domain being engaged; by the Rugby football-' ers the match was played at Mackaytown. The pitch, which is a concrete one, and matting-jpoverejd, played, well, but the outfield was very rpugh. ’

The home side batted first, and Sale compiled a splendid 47 before being runo ut. Flower contributed a useful 31 runs for his not-'out innings, aiiifl F. Dare, 18, and H. Wright 10, were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. The innings produced 125 runs, as against the visitors’ innings of 78 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Owing to the failing light stumps were dra,Wn and the game declared a draw.
