PAEROA DOMAIN.

MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD. ROUTINE BUSINESS. Tihei monthly meeting of the Paeroi. Domain Beard was held on Thursday night, the chairman (Mr W. Marshall) presiding over Messrs E. Edwards, P. E. Brenan. F. E. Flatt, E. A. Porritt, J. W. Silcock, J. Pinder, and 1 W. C. Alexander (secretary).

The following report was submitted by the superintendent, Mr W. A. Hamilton, for the month of March :—

“Since) my last report my time has been mainlly occupied in keeping the greens and surroundings in order : also grubbing out gorse on Primrose Hill, which took ai considerable time, but I consider this the best job that ha s been done). The piece which was ploughed I. recommend should be ploughed and drag-haijowed. AU ie rest has been grubbed out with the exception of the latter piqce. “The bowling green has not been top-dressed for some years, and after the dry weather this year it has gone) back considerably. I think the best plan would be, if possible, to obtain about 15 drayloads of sea sand; failing this, some light pumice soil and about 151 b of seed. Probably this might have the desjred) effect of stopping quite a number of comp’aints.” The report was adopted with the exception of that portion relating to the bowling green. ' The matter of ploughing and t°P" dressing on Primrose Hjjl was referred to the chairman of the domain committee (Mr Brenan). DRESSING iOF BOWLING GREEN. The Paeroa Bowlingl; Club wrote asking that the green be well worked over and given a good raking with a close-.pronged fork during the, period that the green was closed. It was also suggested that the area should be given a good top-.dressing with soil and manure. The dub offered to undertake) the work of forking and raking under the direction of the superintendent. Mr Silcock supported the request, and said that something drastic would have to be done. Arrangements could be madej for the advice of an expert, and improved implements could be obtained from Hamilton. Mr Pinder said that the soil for top-dressing had been unsuitable, and as a result the green was. in its preent state . The soil which could be obtained from Cambridge jva® properly sterilised by steaming and then drying. Something would have to. be done' at once. It was suggested by Mr Edward's that the board might beiar the cost, •iSvhiich would run into about £5O, and fallow the club to repay the board by instalments. After further discussion the chairman moved that the club be authorised to carry out the work as suggested, and that the details be left in the) hands of the domain, committee, with power to act. Seconded by Mr Flatt, wiho said that the club had done well in regard to paying off the capital cost of the electric lighting, and he would ba pleased to see the club receive some assistance. ’ The resolution was carried. GROUNDS FOR BASKETBALL. An. application was received from the Paeroa • Basketball Association for the use of the two tennis courts in the domain for basketball. Mr Brenan said he favoured the application. On the motion, of Mr Silcock permission was granted. GROUNDS FOR HOCKEY. On the motion of Mr Silcock the Paeroa Ladies’ Hockey Club was granted the use of a hockey ground for the season on terms similar to those of last year. The location; of the ground was left to the discretion of the committee. GENERAL. It was pointed out by Mr Brenan that there were many matters that required attention, but he realised that the difficulty was finance. A damaged gatepost at the King Street entrance l required repairing. There was also the question of signposts to indicate to visitors that the domain, was a public one. The various items; mentioned were referred to the committee. «
