The taste for tobacco once acquired rarely dies. Once a smoker always a smoker. Many a lonely man’s best friend is his pipe, and it’s no less true that many a man would rather go short of “tucker” than short of ’baccy. Let those who rave against smoking—generally because it makes them ill—; go on raving. Those who know the ** pleasure the pipe gives, the comfort and consolation it brings, will never, be convinced to the contrary. Why should they ? There’s no harm in tobacco so long as it’s pure and as free from nicotine as possible. The imported brands, to be sure, often contain a terrible lot of nicotine. That’s bad. But our New Zealand brandscontain so little that they are corn--paratively innocuous and may be freely indulged in with the utmost impunity. Yes, and what’s more they’ll soon spoil you for any other kind, they are so sweet and fragrant. They are in various strengths. Riverhead Gold is mild, Toasted Navy Cut (Bulldog) is medium, and Cut Plug No. 10. (Bulkhead) is full flavoured.*
