WORKS IN THE COUNTY.

PROGRESS DURING MARCH. REPORT BY ENGINEER. The following report for the month of March was submitted by the; acting engineer (Mr. L. E l . Shaw) to last Wednesday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council;— “Kaimanawa Riding.—Maintenance, as usual has been carried put in this riding. The heavy rain, in the early part of the month caused slips and washouts on Maratoto Road,, I necessitating all hands, and an extqa truck being employed on this road for several days. A quantity of gravel iis still required to put the settlement portion in order. This will be gone on with as soon as the woi;k now in hand is completed. “Waihi Riding.—The metalling of Pukehauri Road is proceeding satisfactorily, good progress, having been made during the last week. Repairs to Trig Road bridge are being carried out.

“Waikino Riding.—A start has been made; to have a portion of Pukekauri Road metalled, and when the council’s truck can be spared this work will be completed. “ Paeroa Riding.—Very little work has be,en done in the Paeroa riding during this period, the time being givejn, mostly to work on the PaeroaTe Aroha main highway. “Main Highways.—Considerable improvement is now shown; on the Pae-roa-Tirohia section of the HamiltonPaeroa main highway. Several portions have been scarified, remetalled, and rolled. The portion* acipss the swamp between Mill Road and Colman Road still requires about 3O£? cubic yards of metal to put it in anything like good order- All other highways have had a fair amount of attention.

“Waikino Water Supply.—The replacing of the deteriorated pipes has v been, delayed chiefly on account of the / ' creek feeding the dam being so very ’ lbw, but as the pipe-line is in such an unsatisfactory state and causing considerable trouble I will endeavour to* •have these repairs, put in 'hand.”
