ENERGY MATTER,
REPORTED DISCOVERY. Scientific circles in the Baltic countries 'have been thrilled by the report of al remarkable discovery by M. Polestchuk, a former member of the Russian Academy of . Science and now a refugee,. After , several years of experimenting at ' the Reval Polytechnic he is said, to have discovered a method of condensing energy into matter through, the Influence of cathode rays. M. Polestchuk has accepted an, invitation of thei Dorpat University to continue his investigations on a larger scale in their laboratory. A scientist, commenting on the aonouncemen,t in the above telegram, said:—
“The importance of th® discovery, bhouifl ,subsequent tests confirm it, lie ( s in,, the fact that it; may be possible •’to store up energy by the agency of eahods rayts- and so to manufacture- substances akin to radium' in their chemical power andi effect, if the energies so stored up could be released as rapidly, the matter treated might even, be made to act as an accumulator Or storage battery dealing with immense power.”
