— o ' PLAINS SCHOOL CHILDREN. NGATEA CLUB’S WORK. The value of the work of bhe Ngatea Swimming Club in instructing and in providing facilities for the teaching of swimming was demonstrated to a large gathering of parents on (igdurday, when swimming sports, for We children of the Hauraki Plains were held by the club at its site on the Piako River near the Ngatea bridge. Prior to the formation of the club very few Ngateja children could. 1 swim, and it was possibly duei to tire fewness of swimmers amongst the pupils of \ the other Plains schools that their representation was so small. Mr J. E. Reid, founder aifd president of the club, organised the sports, being ass’bteid on the day by several of the oldter members. Details of the events ane as follows :— Girls, 12 and under, 25yds : A. Foster 1, M. McClean 2. Seven starters. Boys, 12 and -under, 25yds : M. Costello 1, E. Waite 2. Six starters. Girls, any age, 50yds : K. McKerchar 1, B. Elliott 2. Four starters. Boys, any age, 50yds : P. Foster 1, A. Baker (Turua) 2. Five starters. Neat dive, 12 and under, mixed : E. Waite 1, Miss K. Barrtball 2. Twelve entries. Neat dive, ovei’ 12, mixed: S. Parfitt 1, Miss P. Norcott 2, Miss. K. McKerchar 3. Eight emtries. Old Clothes race, open, mixed: Miss K. Barriball 1. S. . Parfitt 2. Four entries. Primary y schools championship, 50yds: D. DudJ ding 1, Miss B. Elliott 2. Beginners’ event: L. Johnston 1, Miss K. Louch 2, Miss J. Louch 3. Ten entries. Box race: A. Barker 1, S. Parfitt 2, Miss P. Norcott 3! Also won heats. Ten entries. Dual relay race: Miss K. McKerchar and E. Waite 1, Miss B. Elliot, and A. Baker 2. Long dive, primary school: D. Dudding 1, S. Parfitt 2. Six entries. Long divei, secondary school: P. Foster 1, Si. Parfitt 2. Four entries.

Small prizes as ‘mementos of the occasion will be presented at the school shortly.
