NGATEA. LIBRARY MATTERS'. , With a. view to reviving interest in tile Ngatea. Public Library a public meeting was held' last Tuesday evening, there: beipg present Mesdaines King, McKerchar, and Dudding, and Messrs W. Chappell, E ; . L- Walton, A. H. McOlean, R. C, Abel, and J. E. Reid. Various suggestions were submitted and discussed, it being dec'ded, to spend about £25 on new books and a small sum on timber, for an additional cupboard. With a view to regaining old subscribers and attracting new members, lists of boolife selected from booksellers’ and publishers’ catalogues will be prepared and forwarded to 'householders of the district, with a request that they mark the books they would like to see in the (library. From the, listfe retuilned the order for the new books will be compiled. All present at the meeting were constituted the committee of the library, and Mr J. E. Reid., who for many years has acted as librarian and secretary, was rei-appointed to the pos'tjon. The subscriptions were fixed at 10s a year, and 15s a yeah where there were more than one subscriber in a family ; and a deposit of 2s 6d per book will be required from new subscribers.

At the present time the library is open on Tuesday afternoons and Friday evenings, but it is hoped to make arrangements to open tihe library four times a week in the: near future. MINISTER FAREWELLED. Opportunity was taken during the Mqthodist Church harvest festival sale at Ngatea on Monday evening to bid farewell to the Rev. J. R. Hall, who ihais. been transferred to Russell, Bay of Islands, and on behalf.of the Method's.ts of the Plains the Rev. WB. Pickering, of Paerpa, in making a presentation of a cheque, referred to the good woijk done by the departing minister and the high regard in which lie was field throughout his district. Musical items were: contributed during the evening by Mesdames Mitchell and Catton, of Paeroa, and Messrs E. Cocks, 'of Ngatea, and V. Cocks, of Paerea. .The (harvest festival sale was conducted by Mir J. Neate, and a little over £l2 was raised.

A vary tasty supper was provided by the ladies.
