SHIPMENT OF STUD CATTLE.

New Zealand breeders of stud beef cattle —Shorthorns, Hereford®, and Aberdeen Angus—will be very strongly represented at the coming Royal Easter Show at Sydney, New South Wales, as a record shipment has just been made of the breeds named. Experts state that included are some cattle of more than usual merit, and if they land in good order should be capable of winning honours in the various classes in which they will compete. The great bulk of the sh pment, .however, which comprises 56 head, are being shipped primarily to participate in the sales of stud 1 beef cattle which arc . a feature of the Royal Shows in Australia. It is anticipated that the p : ck of the New Zealand cattle will meet w'th a . very keen sale, and it is anticipated that the sales generallly wjll be the best for some years, as conditions throughout New South Wales and Queensland are abnonmalfly good.

The largest shipper is Mr L. White, of Rakaia, who has sent forward 30 Shorthorns, of which three are stud bulls and the balance stud cows and heifers. Mr D. Buchanan, of Te Purupuru, Masterton, will be represented by three Shorthorns, including the very fine two-year-old Maungahaki Dukel 32nd, by Bushey Park Pure Gold —Cambridge Duchess 34th, which has been undefeated this season and was reserve champion at the Hawke’s Bay Show in the spring. Sir Douglas MOLean, of Mareakakaho, Hast’ngs, will be nepresented by three wdll-bred yearling bulls which were not is,hown this season, and Mr J. A. Johnstone, of Bushey Park, Palmerston South, will be represented by four buflls of the same breed, including his fine red bull Bushey Park Diamond Mairquis, by Rot-hiebrisbane Diamond (imp.)— Bushey Park Tea RoSe (imp.), which was second in his class at the Royal Show. This comprises the Shorthorn exhibit from the Dominion. Mr J. McKenzie, of I-laungahina, Masterton, has also sent across threq high-clasis Hereford bulls, all of which have been prize-winners during the past season.

Eleven head of Aberdeen. Angus cattile purchased in Now Zealand racently, by Mr G. Muiiuo, of Bingara, New South Wales, also went forward. Four of these are to be exhibited at the Royal Show by Mr Munro, and these comprise two females selected from the well-known herd of Mri W. A. McFa.nlane, Waiterenui, .Hastings, and an equal number from the Bywell herd of Mr J. Ellingham, Ormondville. Included is Mr Ellingh:a ; m’s champion cow at the recent Dannevirke Show, Celandine of Glenelg, by Quality of Maisemore (imp.), and hey prize-winning calf by Victor of Rarichie (mp.). The yea, riling bull by Victor of Rarichie (imp.)—Eclypta of Glenelg, was also secured from Mr Ellingham. The females from Mr McFarlane’s herd to be exhibited are. the two-year-old heifer Koran of Waiterenui, by Friar of Waiterenui — Edina of Waiterenui, and the yearling heifer by Ivanhoe of Waiterenui —Oyster of Ben Lomond. These four well-bred and typical representatives of the breed should .worthily uphold the reputation of the Dominion at the coming Royal Show. Six well-bred heifers bred by Mr W, T. May, Matapihi, Hastings, were also shipped to Mr Munro at the same time. These are a very high-class lot and -are sired by Lead of Ben Lomond, a noted son of the champion cow Helen of Ben Lomond, and by General of Ben Lomond, from selected females representing families deveiloped in the extensive herd of Mr A. B. Williams, of Gisborne. Mr Munro secured his foundation cattle in New Zealand some yeans ago, and he reports that the Aberdeen Angus breed is making such solid progress in New South Wales and Queensland that he felt called upon to further extend his he-rd by additional importations from New Zealand.

The Royal Show winning yearling Shorthorn bull Bushey Park D’nmond Butterfly, by Rothiebrisbane Diamond (imp.)—Naemoor Butterfly 2ml, bred by MY J. A. Johnstone,, of Bushey Park, wihich was Fold recently at a high price, also went with the consignment. This is a. particularly high-class representative of the breed.
