NEW PIRATES CLUB.

PUBLIC WORKS SENIOR TEAM.

A meeting of footballers and their supporters employed by the Public Works Department, convened by Mr J. J. GMmour, was held in Mr W. Bain’s rooms on Wednesday Mr T. Wilkinson was voted to chair and apologised for the absence of 'the convener. He; said that the object of the m’deti.n.g was to try and raise a Public Works team tq enter in the senior compet tion in Paeroa. He wished to make it perfectly clear that in forming a club it was not the wish to weaken either of the two ■ present clubs. It was no use a team together and playing only two or three games. Thev first of all wanted to makq quite sure that they had the men.

Mr Shepherd handed in. a list of. 28 men, all of whom would play senior football. Bes’des those whose names were on the list, Mr Shephard said there were a lot “ banging fire,” as they did not want to go back on their old clubs. A Voice: Yes, there are five —two East and three West players. Mr E. Edwards said he was sure that the Public Works Department could get a strong tciam and Play right through the season. He moved thaf a club be formed to enter the competition under the Paeroa Rugby Union if it would sanction it. Seconded by Mr Tams and carried. After some informal discussion on a. name it was eventually decided to christen the new club “Filiates,” the colours to be black. OFFICERS. The following officers werq elected : Patron, Mr O. G. Thornton ; president, Mr A. Grant; vice-presidents, Messrs J. J. Gilmour, W. E. Gunn, W. Power, J. C. H. McDonald, J. Stark, J. A. Wilkinson, and 'T. Wilk’njson.; committee, Messrs Piercey, Fox, Edwards, Tams, T. WilkinSon, Goonan, McCarroll ; dalegates to Union, Messrs. H. Tams and Maxwell; auditor, Mr J. A. Wilkinson ; selector, Mr W. Piercey ; club captain, Mr Work; social committee, the officers ex-officio Messrs Whitmore, Frost, Work, C.p Waines, and Power; secretar y and treasurer, Mr Shephard. SUBSCRIPTION. It was decided to make the subscription ss, the account to be operated on by the chairman and secretary. INSURANCE OF PLAYERS. On the motion of Mr E. Edwards, seconded by Mr Maxwall, the matter of the insurance of players was left to the committee to draw up a scheme and report to the general meeting of the club. „ CLUB RULES. Messrs T. Wilkinson, Maxwell, and the secretary were appo’nted to draw up rules to be pilaced before a general meeting of the club on April I*-.
