RUGBY FOOTBALL.
POOR PROSPECTS ON PLAINS. DEARTH OF PLAYERS. The prospects for the coming Rugby football season on the Hauraki Plains do not appear bright at the present time, and it is anticipated that considerable difficulty will be experienced in securing district teams. Though the position always appears clouded at this time of the year, and the strength of the various districts does not become known until play actually .commences, the lack of players this season seems to be more acute than usual. In a humber of districts many Soccer players are available, but no Rugby players. Various suggestions have been made to overcome the decline in the standard of Rugby due to the lack of players ,and it is becoming fairly generally agreed that a reduction in the .number of teams on the Plains is desirable. The matter will probably be discussed at the annual meetings of last year’s clubs within the next fortnight.
