SMALL BOAT SINKS.

MISHAP AT NEW BRIGHTON. A NON-3WIMMER RESCUED. A mishap, fortunately without serious consequences, occurred at New Brighton Beach on Tuesday last, on tlie occasion of the annual picnic of tiie Waitakaruru school. Two girlis, Miss G. 'Harris and Miss B. Hunter, were taken for a row in ;a small boat by Messrs H. Jowsey and V. Hayward, and when they were some distance away from the wharf the boat filled with water and sank. M'ss Ham’s was unable to iswim, but was assisted to the wharf by Mr JQwsey, while Mr Hayward righted the boat and brought it to where they were clinging to the piles in a more or less exhausted, condition. Miss Hunter, who is a good swimmer, was able to look after herself.
