RESULTS OF WEEK END MATCHES
VICTORIES FOR PAEROA.
During the week-end the Paeroa combined cricket teams played two matches and emerged from both victoriously. The attraction at the local domain on Saturday, afternoon was the return match between a team representing the Mataura and City clubs, Waihi, and an eleven selected! from the local,A and 3 teams. The home side batted first and declared after playing four batsmen for a total of 188 runs, of which G. Sale contributed 79. He gave one of the finest exhibitions of batting that has been seen in club cricket locally for many years. His perfectly-timed straight drives and powerful leg hits were an education to watch, and his efforts were frequently applauded. Included in Sale’s total were one 6 and thirteen 4’s. Stack also played a sound game for 44 before he was run out, and Furley contributed a useful 31 before sending a high catch oft! Toms to Orange. The afternoon being well advanced, the local! captain (W. Flower) decided to declare the innings, so as to give the visitors aji opportunity to bat. Dutton, partnered by Orange, opened. Waihi’s innings to the bowling of Knight, and gave a fine exhibition of batting and played a steady not-out innings for/the top score of 28. Thomson! made a .good stand, and had knocked up 25 when he was smartly caught by Furley off Ball. The veteran played E. King was clean bowled by Flower after he had made a useful 20. A return mat'cli was also played between Paeroa ,A and B and Netherton, at Mackaytown, and resulted in an easy win for /the Paqroa side by an irinings and 7'3 runs. Although only a young club, Wetherton has some/prom,ising players who, with practice, should be well up in the district competitions uext season. Special reference is naad'e to the Netherton captain, H. Wright, who in tlie first innings the top score of 37 runs and is a medium-pace bowler. in first innings Sale again struck form apd contributed the fine score>. of 84 runs. Knight was also on ■his game and had the pleasure of making his top score (61) in club cricket. During Netherton’s second visit to tlie crease J. P. Monk Avon the distinction of performing the “hat trick.’’

PLAINS V. THAMES. WINS FOR VISITORS'. The annual matches between the Hauraki Plains and tlie Thames Cricket Association’s teams were played the Plains; on Saturday last, the visitors securing victories in. both grades. At Kopuaralii the Plains team made 77 and the visitors 134 in a slow, uninteresting match, while at Turua the Plains B team made 35 and 72 and the visitors 66 and 41 for four wickets.
