DAIRY FACTORY POWER.

ENGINEERS' IN CONFERENCE.

REPORT TO POWER BOARD.

At the meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board yesterday a special report was submitted by the manager detailing the results of a conference at Hamilton on February 10 1 between the Public 'Works Department, the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Co., and the board, which was represented by the chairman, engineer, and manager.

The matter of supply to dairy factories was very fully discussed, and it was finally agreed by the dairy company’s engineer and the board’s engineer in conference that factory plants that could generate their own power should take as much of their loads as possible on and off peaks, the Public Works Department and the. board in conjunction to supply the remainder of the power required under the three-party agreemen. The depatment also undertook to help the company in connection with increased loading due to natural, increase of business, and also in the event of the company’s plant breaking down.

The Public Works Departmett engineer’s attitude was very satisfactory, and he was prepared to allow the company and the board to 1 make their arrangements apart from the ■department.

It was a very important matter for the board to hold the dairy factories’ load, and as the company intended increasing its plant at the respective factories every effort should be made to meet it. Once the company installed machinery to take its own load it would mean losing a source of revenue that should never be lost, and would affect the board’s financial position very considerably.

The chairman said that so far as AVaitoa was concerned it had a good plant, but it was not sufficient to' rely on in case of a breakdown. It would be necessary for the company to expend about £25,000 to provide a complete standby plant. The Public AVorks Department had given every possible assistance, and was. willing to provide a continuity of supply so long as it was able.
