LAST SATURDAY’S MATCH. WAIHI DEFEATS PAEROA. On Saturday afterpoon the Paeroa Cricket Club sent a combined A and B team to Waihi to play an eleven selected from the Mataura and City - clubs. The home side proved too superior and secured an easy victory by 122 runs. The afternoon was ideal for cricket, and the No. 1 ground at the -< Waihi Domain was in splendid playing V condition. The visitors had a good - team, including P. C- Furley, who captained the Aucklanders against Paeroa and district on Wednesday last. However, J. M. Fox was the only player to make a stand, and he scored 29 runs not out. Furley compiled a good 21 before being clean-bowled by Littlefair. Knight was playing confidently and his total Had reached 11 when he placed a catch off Birchall into the hands of Berry. For the first time for two seasons Stack made a “duck” in club cricket. A feature of the game was the batting of Waihi’s good wicket-keeper, F. Collins. He made the fine score of 99, which included thirteen 4’s and two 6’s. This is the second occasion this season on which Collins has missed a century by one run. L. Leopold was also in good form and rattled on 43 before being caught in the outfield by W. H. Taylor. The Kopuarahi and Waitakaruru • cricket clubs played an innings match at Kopuarahi on Saturday, in accordance with the decision of the association concerning the game which was stopped when the only available leather ball was broken.
