NGATEA VETERINARY CLUB.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —The report of the Hamilton office o£ the Agricultural Department to the Ngatea Veterinary Club was most useful, and instructive ; but why listen to the remarks of salesmen, whose priming generally consists of stereotpye propaganda received from head office combined with, a false idea that running other concerns .down is necessary to procure a sale. The knowledge of a reliable veterinarian like Mr Costello has, been gained by a. life-long study of stock find their diseases and remedies,, and farmers should’ not let anything stand in the way or upset the organisation of institutions indispensable to the farm*ing comjnunity. ‘ It should be realised that the call for production is demanding the utmost tax on animals, and diseases and breakdowns, must be more pronounced if not watched and every advantage taken of combined efforts to prevent. Veterinary clubs are not only downright business propositions, but can be macle the means of instruction and progressive thought by lectures and demonstrations. They are the practical means, of effecting insurance. Friendly societies do not find it necessary to'use herculean- efforts like ’ a few devoted farmers to keep their institutions going. These societies are recognised as the most effectual channels for obtaining relief at a minimum cost, and though, the health of human beings, may be paramount, these selfsame human beiings are dependent upon the health and productive powers of stock. One cannot urge too strongly the necessity of veterinary clubs, and. the more the country has of these the greater the check on disease. A.J.G.S-
