VISIT OF AUCKLAND TEAM.
MATCH AT PAEROA, TO-DAY. The louglooked-for visit of the Auckland representative senior cricket eleven- to Paeroa. is now an actual fact. The team, with Mr EE. Nalder, chairman of the management commttee of the Auckland Cricket Association, reached Paeroa shortly after 5 o’clock last evening. The players were met on arrival by tlie president or the Paeroa. Cricket Club (Mr H. E. Butler) and some club members and taken to the Criterion Hotel. After dinner the visitors inspected the th id at the domain and several tried themselves out on the concrete pitch. Later in the evening they were guests at the Ohinemuri Club.
Included in the in addition to J. Langridge, the English professional, is P. C. Farley, ex-toWn clerk of Paeroa, who is experiencing a busy time meeting °ld friends. It has been largely due to tlie efforts and enthusiasm of Mr Furley that the visit of the Auckland team to this town has been brought about. WELCOME TO VISITORS.- , At 10.15 tlie deputy-Mayor '(Mr E. Edwards), in the unavoidable absence of the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall), extended a forma! welcome to’the visitors. In referring to. the visit Mr Ed! Wards said that it was a momentous occasion for Paeroa so far as the Iccal cricket world' was concerned. A special welcome was extended to Mr J. Langridge, and the hope was expressed that he would spend a happy time in. New Zealand and. return to England and add further Lustre to his laurels. The local, public was looking forward- with keen anticipation to seeing the visitors ill action, and he felt sure that pleasure and profit were in store for followers of cricket to-day. The Paeroa Cricket Club members were especially pleased to welcome their old clubmate, Mr P. C. Furley, to the, town again. In conclusion' he hoped that the local side would put up a good showing, and that the visitor's would! thoroughly enjoy their stay at Paeroa. REPLY BY AUCKLAND CAPTAIN.
An,behalf of the Auckland team Mr P. C. Furley (captain and manager) thanked the deputy-jMaybr and the inhabitants of Paeroa for the cordial welcome and generous hospitality which had been accorded the visitors. Since leaving Paeroa it had been his ambition to bring a team, including players whose names were household words in cricket circles in the Dominion, to Paeroa. He hoped thd, visit would stimulate interest in the game in the district, and that. the spectators would enjoy watching the game as much as’the players enjoyed taking part in it. The. visitors had been impressed with the hospitality received, and were looking forward to a really good game. AH being well, the Auckland' Cricket Association intended next season to send a representative senior team to play three matches, in the district, probably at Paeroa, Waihi, and Thames. (Applause.) THE GAME COMMENCES.
The elected captain of tlie local team is G. Sale (Paeroa), and the uppires are Messrs W. M. Wallnutt (Waihi) and E. E. Nalder (Auckland). Auckland won the toss and took tlie field at 10.30 a.m. G. Stack and .R. Dutton opened tihe local innings to the bowling of W. J. Coates. Following are the details up to the luncheon adjournment:—

The wickets fell: one for 1,2 for 7, three for 19, four for 19, five for 24, six for 66, seven for .10®, .eight for 109, nine foi' 109, and ten for 142. A fine exhibition of forceful batting was given by Peake (Manawaru), who scored .10 runs off Langridge’s first over, and: was the first batsman to hit a six. W. Flower (Paeroa) made some good strokes, his total including onte 6. and' three 4’s in one over off Hockin. The work of R. Rowntree behind the stumps was a revelation to watch. Snedden and Langridge opened for Auckland, facing Crawford-Watson. The first ’wicket fell for 42 runs. At the luncheon adjournment the score was one for 58. AUCKLAND. ,N. C.
