routine business. The monthly 'meeting of the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was) held at Thames on Monday, the chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) presiding over Messrs P. E. Brenan, W. J. Hall, C. W. Parfitt, C. W. S. Flett, C. W. Kennedy, J. ft. Lange, J. W. Danby, E. L. Walton, A. R. Robinson, and G. Tonige (secretaiy). HOUSE-SURGEON. The Director-General wrote advising that tihe Minister of, Health had approved of the appointment of Dr. A. S. Gray as temporary anaesthetist and assistant medical superintendent. USE OF AMBULANCE. The Thames Trotting Club wrote asking for the use of the motor ambulance at the club’s meeting at Parawai on March 24. —Granted, subject to paying running costs. RESIGNATION OF NURSES. The resignation of Nurse E. Barker was tendered on account of her wishing to undergo a course, of training at St. Helen’s Homes), Auckland. Nurse M. H. Tomlinson also forwarded her resignation for similar reasons. The resignations were accepted with regret, the chairman) remarking that the nurses had rendered splendid service, and the board could not reasonably stand in the way of thlem receiving further experience. The vacancies would be filled by promoting other nur es, and several, more probationers, would be taken on. The waiting list, however, was getting fairly low at present. PATETONGA NURSE. Owing to having accepted a poS'tion as district nurse at Parongahou, Hawke’st Bay, Mrs L. McNamara wrote resigning her position as district nurse at Patetonga and asking that she be relieved of. her duty as from February 15. The chairman said that Mrs McNamara’s.services) had; been quite satisfactory during the years she had been with the board. A testimonal. was granted thb nurse, and her resignation was accepted with regret. In answer to Mr Parfitt the chairman said that it was, difficult to get a competent nurse far -this district owing to the isolation, and the con dition of the roads during the v.;inter. The Patetonga people had experienced some difficulty ;at times in arranging the required finance. The settlers were finding £so' a year towards thle nurse’s salary, and the board contributed about £lOO a year. On the motion of Mr Parfitt it was resolved to call applications for another nurse. At the present time there was no immediate hurry. In seconding, Mr Robinson said ■that the settlers were isolated and were deserving of every help. WAIKINO FUNCTION. The Waikino Old Boys’ Assiociation forwarded an invitation to attend the aniiual reunion, to be held at Waikino on March 7. On the motion of the chairman it was resolved that Messrs Kennedy, Brenan, and Robinson be deputed to represent the board. Mr Kennedy said that the board received the invitation in a very halfhearted way. For several years the board had not been prhperly represented, and the association, of. which he was a member, was getting $ bit tired of the reception the invitation received. Waikino was an important settlement 'in the board’s district, and the least the board could do was to be adequately 'represented. BENEVOLENT LEAGUE. The Hauraki Eadies’ Benevolent League forwarded a number of certified accounts and asked for the usual donation of £lO. —Granted. MATRON’S REPORT. The matron (.Miss K. M. Ansenne) reported at length on domestic and staff matters, and advised that Nutses Keith and Cochrane had passed the State examination, Nurse Keith securing honours. In the maternity annexe there were six patients admitted, and' there had been five ’ births. Six patients and four babies were remaining at date. On the motion of the chairman it was resolved to record the board s thanks and appreciation to all persons who had contributed to the patients)’ Christmas, fare. The chairman said that it was also pleasing to learn that Nurse Keith had secured honours at the State ex-’ aminations, the standard of;: which had been raised lately. It was resolved to forward a letter congratulating Nurse Keith on the success she had gained and the honour brought to the Thames Hospital. Various domestic matters were left in the hands of the matron, with power to act. ENGINEER’S. REPORT. The engineer (Mr A. M. Somerville) reported that everything had been working smoothly ini his department, and the laundry had been in use daily. The cb.al consumption for the month was 32 tons 2cwt. PATETONGA DISTRICT. The Patetonga district nurse (Mrs L. McNamara) reported having attended 14 patients. Fees received during January totalled £3 lljs 6d.
