Six building permits, to the total value of £BOO, were granted at Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. An application from G. Brown to erect an iron shed bn a section in Belmont Road owned by W. F, North, and within the limits, of the brick area, was held over for.one month, in. order that the matter could be discussed by a full council.

A Moth two-seater aeroplane will be brought to Auckland by the Mataroa at the end of this month for Mr D. Mill, of Remuer.a, a. well-known motorist, who has been touring and flying recently in England and on the Continent.

A large haystack on the farm of Mr C. W. Schultz, Orchard East Road, Ngatea, was discovered to be on fire when the fog lifted early on Sunday morning. The origin of the fire is unknown. The hay was stacked early in December, but the stack was found to have heated very considerably when the iron roof was placed in position some weeks later. The stack was not insured.

In moving at the Paeroa Domain Board meeting on Thursday night that the Paeroa. Cricket Club be granted the use of the domain and permission to chai'ge admission on tlie occasion of the visit of the Auckland Cricket team, on February 22, Mr E. Edwards said he thought that the club was, to be congratulated on its eniterprise in getting such a worthy team to visit Paeroa, and he hoped the public would rise to the occasion and assist the club. This view was shared by several members.

The girders for the opening span of the Hauraki Bridge arrived by scow from Tauranga on Saturday evening. It now appears that all the material for the bridge has arrived, and all that remains; to be done is to assemble the opening span, place the span over the present river channel, concrete this span, complete the handrails, and metal the approach road on the Orongo side. The metal will come from the Matatoki quarry.

At laM Tuesday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board a letter was received from Mr W. PGauvain, consulting engineer to the board. In conveying seasonal greetings to the members Mr Gauvain advised that owinig to private reasons he had decided to remain in London, where he had opened an office. He would be pleased at any time to do any business for the board on a. 2% per cent, basis. In reply to Mr F. EFlatt the engineer (Mr N. G. McLeod) said that the services of Mr Gauvain would .have been useful when the last purchase of transformers was made.
