TURUA TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. LITTLE BUSINESS DONE. The Turua Town Board met on Wednesday evening, Mr J. Mules presiding over Messrs J. McConnell, C. Scott, J. Schmidt, J. H. Johnston, J. T. Davies, S. G. Williams, and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. The clerk reported that he had been informed by the county engineer, Mr F. Basham, that the total, subsidy voted by the Government for the grading off the bitumen road water-tabled was less than promised, being £l2O, at the rate of £1 10s for £l. The engineer had congratulated the board on the manner in which this work had been done. Thq board was taking great care of its bitumen roads, and, ini fact, was doing everything that Was required to maintain them up to the maximum state. CHIPS FOR ROADS. The chairman reported that practically all the bitumen roads had been given a coating of chips during the hot weather. A satisfactory job had been done as far asi material was available.
Members commented that the- chips were proving jnueh more satisfactory than sand.
