CRICKET.

YljjlT OF AUCKLAND SENIORS.

MATCH AT PAEROA ON 22ND..

The public of Paeroa and district in general and cricketers in particular will be interested to Iqarn that an Auckland City senior team is to play a match at Paeroa on Wednesday, , February 22. ’ The arrangements have bee# * brought about through the instrumentality of Mr P. C. Furley, of Auckland, one .time town clerk of Paeroa and captain of the Paeroa eleven in 1921-23, and Mr H. E. Butler, presi-. dent of the Paeroa. Cricket Club. Negotiations have been in hand f° r s,ome we.eks, and now arrangements have been concluded and the visitors will leave Auckland on February 21, play at Paeroa on the 22nd, and return to Auckland on the morning of. the 23rd. Although the match has boen organied by the local cricket dub, which is affiliated with the Piako Cricket Association, the team to play the visitors is to be selected from extended limits,, and players will probably be' chosen from the Paeroa, Te Aroha, Waitoa, MorrinsviUe, Waihi, and Thames clubs. The Ha.uraki Plains Association has also been risked to siubmit the names of a couple of their best players for possible inclusion in the local eleven. The Piako Association’s selector is Mr G. Sale, of Karangahake, and he has been! appointed to select the local eleven from the clubs men- i tionejd. The final selection will be made this week, and the names will appear in the “Gazette” on Monday next. Advice has been received from Mr P. C. Furley, who has been granted permission by the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association to bring the team to Paeroa, that the following players will definitely play at Paeroa: J. Langridge, Auckland professional coach and representative of England, Sussex, and Ponspnby ; N. C. Snejddon, New Zea- " land, Auckland, and Ponsoilby; W. J. Coates, Auckland a'nd North Shore ; HN. Hocken, Auckland and Eden ; S- C. Arblaster, Grafton and North Shore ; O. S. Hintz, University; E. Fuller, Auckland Theatres XL; P. C. Furley, Grafton; and probably R. W. Rowntree, N.Z., Auckland, and Grafton ; F. S. Taylor, and another Ponsbnby sen-, ior. The, foregoing list of players have all played or are still playing senior cricket. The final constitution of the Auckland team-will be available within the next few days. Seldom, if ever, has such a team or redoubtable cricketers been seen in action in Paeroa. Naturally there .will be certain expenses incurred in bringing the team to Paeroa, but in view of the impetus, it must give cricket in the district, and, also the fact that the visiting team will include some, of the finest cricketers in the Dominion, it is confidently expected that the public will rise to J the occasion and assist in every way to make the match an unqualified sucThe Auckland team is bringing Y down an umpire,, and Mr W. M, Wallnutt, Mayor of Waihi, and an enthusi? astic cricketer, has consented to act as umpire for the local eleven. The support and cooperation rif the; Mayor of Paeroa (Mr W. JJars|mll) has been freely given, and it is probable that employers will be approached and invited to close their premises for a couple of hours at least on Wednesday • afternoon, to enable their employees to sqe something of the match.
