ENGINEER’S REPORT.

PAEROA DISTRICT. In his monthly report bo the Thames Valley Electric Power Board the engineer (Mr N. G. McLeod) included the following:—

“Kaihere-Patetonga.— AH 11,000volt low tension and telephone wiring was, completed to the school corner at Patetonga on December 23, and power was supplied to all consumers on the old road on that date.

“All wiring to the Tramway Ho.id Store, corner was completed on January 16, and power will be supplied as soon as the consumers’ installations, are ready. Pole erection on Tramway Road is completed and Wiring is proceeding: this should be complet t 'id within a fortnight. It is proposed to put this, gang on maintenance work, which has been held up owing to pressure of. construction' work. “Maratoto.—Construction of the Line to the battery and mine of tbe 4 Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines is now completed, and the transformer was made alive on February There is still a lot of bush-clearing to bd done and other details to be attended to, but the whole work lis expected to be finished within a week. Construction on the latter part of titiet work was very arduous.

“Tree Plantation. —The dry weather appears to Haye caused considerable mortality among the seedlings planted on thej IWaitakaruru section, although after rain comes results may prove not t« be so bad as they at present appear. All seedlings planted in. the uncultivated ground are still alive. The, seeds planted show no sign yet of having germinated.

“P.W.D. Dredge.—The tapping point for supply to the electric dredge was shifted from the old Netherton Road to Carter’s Corner on Sunday, January 29. .

“Power Supply—A considerable amount of inconvenience, has been caused to consumers by the trouble experienced at Horahora from ’Arapuni debris since January 1. The staff has m'ade every effort to distribute the power available to the bes,t advantage, and consumers generally have been very considerate under what to them also have been trying circumstances. Latterly there has been very little -trouble from Horahora supply; but there is no indication of what may be expected in case of floods in the Waikato.

“Horahora has, beenl carrying full load on seven of the eight turbines since January 29, and the .eighth is expected to be in operation in about a week. The Diesel, plant at Penrose is expected to be, working by July nepit, and this should help a little.

“Stoppages experienced since January 1 hale been as follows “Waikino Feed-point: Fourteen complete; stops on nine days, with a stoppage time of 17 hours 20 1 minutes. There was an additional sectional stop on one, of the nine days involving Thames Road and Waikino of 7 hours 55 minutes.

“Kerespeehi Feed-point : Sixteen complete stops on 11 days, wiith a total time of 17 hours 3 minutes. This record is not necessarily complete, as there is, no. permanent attendant yet at Kereepehi station.

“There was no general, interruption of power from January 29 until Sunday, February 5, when further cleaning of the screens and examination of tliei headrace took place. Supply was available from Tauranga however, and all factories '.were supplied.”
