PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.
MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING. ROUTINE BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee was held on Friday flight last, the chair- - man (Mr W.-T. Power) presiding Over Messrs J. H. C. McDonald, C. H. Pas-, coe, W. Purdie, J. W. Silcock, C. T. Mettam, W. N. Chamberlain, R. Thorp, W. L. Lawrence (secretary//*' and G. H. Taylpr (headmaster), x ANNUAL PICNIC. The question of the annual picnic Was discussed at length, and finally it -- was resolved that an excursion be made to Te Aroha on February 24’. was decided to approach the Te Aroha Borough Council artd ask for the, use of the Herries Memorial Park for the day. A sub-committee comprising Messrs Pascoe, Thorp, McDonald, Chamberlain, and the secretary was set up to arrange details. The headmaster was authorised to issue, an appeal to parents for s,ubscriptions. CONVEYANCE OF CHILDREN. Mr Silcflck reported at length on the question of conveying children who lived over the two-mile limit to the Paeroa school. He handed in a list showing that there we-re 26 children. living on the Hauraki Plains, side of the Puke bridge who were attending or would attend the school provided a conveyance was; available. He thought something should. be done ; to assist the parents! After the headmaster had explained the procedure to be followed it was decided to approach the board and ask for tlie allowance made under the regulations. PLAYGROUND REPAIRS., On behalf of the visitiflg committee Mr McDonald reported on the state; of the boys’ lower playground, and suggested that the area be bituminised instead of tarred and sanded. The cost would be about £60.. After a, long discussion it was re--solved to apply to the board for a £ for £ subsidy. • ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS. Several members paid a tribute to the work of the teaching staff during 1927. Particular reference was made .to the successes which thei pupils in. the secondary department had gained at the Education Department’s and N.Z. University examinations held towards the close of the school year. It was considered that thq hohours were all the greater when it w'as remembered that the services; of Mr Preston, owing to illness, were not available just at the critical time. The results of the examinations showed the co-operation and desire to do good which existed between the headniaster and his staff, and parents, as < yvell as pupils, had good causp to feel pleased and proud. It was; decided to record the committee’s thanks to Mr G. H. Taylor, Miss H. M. Taylor, 8.A., and Mr E. G. Prestptn, of the secondary department
