LATE MIL BOLLARD’S POSITIONSTATEMENT BY MR. COATES. WELLINGTON, January 24. It is expected now that tihei Prime Minister has returned from his holi- • day in the North that the appointment ' of a Minister to fill the vacancy created by the death of. the ,Hon. R. F. Bollard xyill receive early consid- / erat’i on. . After the first meeting in the new year of the Cabinet this afternoon Mr Coates was asked if he had any an- . nouncement to make concerning the , vacancy in the Cabinet. His . was that he had hardly settled down' \ . yet after returning to Wellington. Upon the death of Mr Bollard the portfolio of Internal Affairs, involving a. grejat amount of detailed administrative work, was taken over temporarily by the Minister-in-charge of the Cook Islands, Sir Maui Pomare. The latter has left on a visit to the islands, and his duties in connection with the acting position have been r. assumed during his absence by the Attorney-General, Hon. F. J. Rolleston.
