HAURAKI PLAINS COUNTY

MONTHLY REPORTS. The following reports.were received by the Hauraki Plains County Council from its officers at the monthly meeting on Thursday last-:— THE ENGINEER’S REPORT. Tlie county engineer, Mr F. Basham, reported as follows :— *’ Pipiroa Ferry.—The alterations to the approaches were completed on December 20, and the ferry is working satisfactorily. “Netherton Ferry—Necessary metalling to the approaches has been done. The question of repairs to fences must be held over until dredging operations and roads over stopbanks are completed.

“ Huirau Road and Bagnall’s Bridges.—l have examined these bridges with a view to making recommendations to prevent subsidence. Both structures show considerable signs of rot ;at ends and slipping of drain; banks under cills. Neither bridge is worth spending money on in the way of driving piles to> replace mud cills. I would recommend them being replaced with concrete pipes as soon as same can be made. The riding member and the county engineer were authorised to confer with the Hauraki United Drainage Board oni the matter. “ Coxhead’s Filling. — Contractors have nearly completed work, and so far everything is satisfactory. “ Mangatarata Bridges— Two bridges at Mangatarata are completed and work on bridge at Sexton’s is in progress. “ Peka Peka Road Metalling.—Good progress has been made with this work, which should be completed about tihe end of this month. “ Kaihere-Torehape Metalling. — Good progress, has been made ,with earthworks and widening corners. Extra culvers are being put in. Tenders for the supply of gravel close to-day. “ Plant.—One grader is working on main highways. Trucks are employed repairing gravel on Ngarua.-Kaihere Road.” TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer, Mr E. Mahoney, reported that summonses; ‘had been issued for all rate arrears for which arrangement had not been made. After a meeting with the Orpngo soldier settlers an arrangement had been made whereby the past year’s statement of. cream returns would be furnished for consideration by the finance committee. The procedure in. regard to the Kaihere-Torehape Roads Loan has been completed, and the money authorised, viz., £llOO is in hand. Receipts for the monlth totalled £1250 13s 4d, being £lOl9 13s 10s from rates and £230 19s 6d from miscellaneous sources. INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The county inspector, Mr R. H. .Cameron, reported having issued .18 motor-drivers’ licenses 'and collected £4 10s for dog tax during the month. During last year 719 dog collars had been sold.
