The dry weather conditions continue to prevail and there has been no rain to speak of since December 29. The weather was very sultry during the; week-end, and yesterday afternoon, especially, conditions were very sultry. Bush, grass, and swamp fires abound, and a heavy haze of. smoke envelops the town.
The bathing pools adjacent to Paeroa continue to be liberally patronised, especially during the week-ends. It is safe to say that dozens of persons journeyed to TarUriki Creek, and Royal’s pool, Komata, yesterday, while some, people journeyed to the the Puke and, crossing the bridge, went up the stop-bank road and swam in the Ngararahi Canal, Waihou River.
Passenger revenue for which tickets were issued at the Frankton station during the calendar year ended December 31 had a total], value of. £40,014 6s Bd, and the number Of tickets: actually issued was 77,630. Of these,, 6158 were excursion fares. The total numbqr of single tickets sold was £55570, of whieh 10,182 were first class and 4'5,388 second class. Return t!ckets issued numbered altogether 21/ 760, of which 4392 were first clasff and 17,368 second class.
