RIFLE-SHOOTING.

PAEROA DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The first meeting of the executive of the Paeroa Defence Rifle Club was held in Bain’s Rooms on Monday night last. Mr Edwin Edwards, presideult, was in the chair, other members present being: Messrs P. R. Hubbard, A- Bridge, R. Wells, A. Jenkinson, and H. Simmonds (secretary).

Letters were received from Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., and Colonel Porritt, patron and vice-patron of the club respectively, wishing newly formed club success. The secretary reported a. bank credit of £l5 17s 6d. Accounts amounting to £5 19s 4d were passed for paymeht. The question of a set of rules was fully discussed, and it was decided to adopt the rules of the Wanganui Club, a copy of which was placed before the committee. The secretary stated that these rules had been very carefully framed as recently as two years ago. They complied with the requirements of the Defence Department, and covered all points, likely to arise under conditions governing modern rifle clubs. The secretary reported that a target shed had been built by a working bee, and the trench had beep sufficiently cleaned out to permit of a start being made with the shooting. With regard to materials, the club was indebted to Mr W. Marshall, .who had given sufficient scantling for the erection oflhe shed. - Two targets had been procured, and practice shoots had been indulged in by a few members on the last two Saturdays, everything working satisfactorily. A telephone line was being constructed for the purpose of. keeping communication between the mo*unds and the butts, the work being carried out under the direction of; Captain F. C. Hubbard. The Tine would be in working order at an early date. Two more targets were required. The secretary was authorised to have two extra targets, made. It was decided to carry on with practice matches each Saturday until the range was fully equipped. The ranges decided on for njext Saturday were 300yds and 500yds. , Three new members were elected.

Members wishing to procure rifles should get in touch with the secretary at once.
