THE HAURAKI BRIDGE.

PROGRESS OF ERECTION.

WORK TO BE COMPLETED. The Hauraki bridge; over the Wailiou River from Orongo to Kopit is nearing completion, but much yet remains to be done, and it seems doubtful that the, crossing will be open in March, as anticipated.

At present all the girders are in position except the onei 'Over the river channel, but there are two other gaps which will be bridged by the swinging span. It is understood that p'Srt of this swinging Span is assembled in Tauranga, awaiting transportation to the bridge, and that a scow* is on its way for the load. Four spans Qn the Orongo side remain to be concreted, and all the handrails have yet to be erected, on the Plains side of the opening span.

On the Kopu side tlie approach road is completed, but the long road at Orongo still requires, much formation before metalling can be commenced.
