A MEAN SWINDLE.

TALE OF 80 HAPPY GIRLS.

AND THE SEQUEL.

BERLIN, November

There was a flutter among stage-struck girls of Chemnitz a weak ago, when the following alluring advertisement appeared in the Chesmnitzer Tageszeitung

“Young ladies required foi’ balletrevue and for small parts. Apply from 2 to '5 to-morrow at the. Central Hotel.” r

. The next day the Central. Hotel was stormed by young women who doubtlessly thought that dancing on. the stage must be more amusing than working in textile factories. The porter had .his work cut out to look after them while they were waiting to see the theatre-unanager, who. had come from Berlin,' so -it was said, in search for new talent.

Herr Manager Korn explained that the girls were wanted for the celebrated Haller Revue in Berlin, and Herr Manager Diecke was kept busy filling up contracts with the delighted young women and writing receipts for the 10s -which each had to pay for the official stamp on the contract. Yesterday there was to be the first rehearsal at the Central Hotel at 2 o’clock. By 1 o’clock 80 happy girls had arrived! At 3 o’clock there vas no sign of Herr Manager’ Korn and Herr Manager Diecke ; they had not arrived at 4, and at 5.30 a stream of 80- miserable, girls left the hotel. Belated inquiry at Berlin showed that the Haller Revue had nothing to do with the ina.tter, and the police are now searching for the two rascals who : swindled the stage-struck girls out of some $4O.
